August 30th, 2017: Looking Back

Justin Trudeau has finally – finally – let it be known that Canada does not have an open border immigration policy.

But it may be too little too late.

Trudeau’s reckless feel-good tweet made international headlines, sending mixed messages to potential refugees and implying Canada accepts everybody.

The total number of asylum claims received by the federal government so far in 2017 sits at 25,495, surpassing last year’s total.

As we’ve been saying for months now, the Trudeau government needs to take action.

As True North’s Candice Malcolm says, “Canada needs to secure its borders, and we need to make sure we have the resources to properly welcome newcomers and help those truly in need”.

The Prime Minister has a long way to go in fixing this self-inflicted wound, but if Trudeau wants to stop the surge in illegal border crossings, he needs to set the record straight on Twitter and send police and guards to our southern border.
