Harper is right about Iran

Last week, former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was part of a full-page advertisement in the New York Times, along with several other world leaders. The headline of the ad read:

“Mr. President, you are right about Iran.”

This did not sit well with the Trudeau government.

In response, Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan complained, saying, “this doesn’t help.”

Help what, you might ask?

Well, Justin Trudeau has quietly been working to re-establish ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran - the world’s top sponsor of Islamic terrorism.

Stephen Harper took a hard line against the Iranian regime when he was Prime Minister. Under Harper, Canada carved its own path and showed real leadership while others attempted to cozy up to Iranian regime.

In 2011, while the Iranian regime was teetering towards collapse, then U.S. President Barack Obama signed the disastrous Iran deal.

Like Trudeau, Obama believed he could appease the Iranian regime.

The Iran Deal was a sham from day one.

Obama hoped the nuclear deal would lead to a more stable and moderate Iran. Instead, the opposite happened.

The deal ignored Iran’s horrendous behaviour, its dismal human rights record, its funding of terrorist organizations, and its maniacal threats to “wipe Israel off the map.”

The main intent of the Iran Deal was to stop Iran’s nuclear program, but the regime was found to be cheating before the deal was even signed! Evidence of more cheating — more nuclear advancement — was proven by both Israel and an Iranian opposition party.

Iran continues to fund terrorism and prop up the Syrian dictator, Bashar al-Assad.

And everyday citizens of Iran have not benefited from the Iran deal. Life has gotten worse in Iran, as the regime funnels more money towards terrorism and war.

Five years ago, Canada was standing up to the tyrannical regime in Tehran, while the Americans were sacrificing principles to make a deal. Today, the tables have turned.

Iran is a dictatorship, and one of the world’s most despicable regimes. And yet, the Trudeau Liberals are siding with the mullahs over our friends and allies.
