Petition to Acadia: Release the Rick Mehta reports

As I broke on Friday, tenured psychology professor Rick Mehta has been fired by Acadia University six months after the school started an investigation over allegedly “racist and transphobic” remarks by the professor.

Except the students who complained never said what the remarks actually were.

The school commissioned two reports about Mehta’s conduct, which served as the basis for his firing. But they aren’t letting Mehta have copies of them, which he says is because the school knows the firing will look unjustified to anyone who reads them.

Mehta wants the reports made public. Acadia wants to keep them buried.

The termination of a tenured professor in such a way is a blow to academic freedom and to due process.

Sign our petition calling on Acadia to release the reports.

The termination of a tenured professor by a publicly funded university has wide-reaching implications. Canadians, including faculty members and students across the country, deserve to see the rationale for such a decision.

We, the undersigned, call on you to, as Dr. Rick Mehta has requested, release the reports conducted by professors Wayne MacKay and Jeff Hooper.
